Chart Reading feat. Happypotamus w/ Kate : 7/12 & 7/26, 12-2p
After making this lovable guy, we realized right quick that we needed to spread the absolute joy of this Happypotamus! In the first of this 2-part class, we'll go over how to make the individual motifs by reading a chart. And in the second class, we'll go over how the "Join-as-you-go" technique to start putting them together. Learning has never been so adorable!
Skill level: Intermediate - Must be comfortable with single/double crochet and working in the round
Required Materials:
- Copy of the Happypotamus pattern by Heidi Bears, which is available for purchase through Ravelry (see note below regarding Homework)
- Size 2mm - 2.5mm hook
- Allow about 100g of fingering weight yarn in as many colors as you'd like + 40g of your main connecting color (140g total)
- Locking stitch markers
- Scissors
Other Materials (not required for class)
-
12mm Safety eyes (or glass eyes with a loop back)
- If giving this hippo to a child, use your choice of yarn to embroider the eyes on instead
- Poly-fiber fill stuffing
- Darning needle
- Poly-pellets and nylon stockings (optional: to weigh down the feet) - omit if giving to a child
Homework: Please purchase and print the pattern before class. Glancing over the pattern to familiarize yourself with the construction is recommended but not required for class.
- If you do not wish to print the entire pattern, print only page 8 (the pentagon motif) to bring with you for class.
- If you plan to use a portable device (i.e. iPad or Kindle) to read your pattern, purchase and download the pattern onto your device ahead of time. And don't forget to charge it!
